i was off
no name, no face
just static in a folder
you weren’t supposed to find me
but you did
click.
click.
click.
your heart lit me up like a glitch
was it love
or just a bug in the system?
was i gone
or just hiding?
i’m the ghost in the hallway
you scroll past but still feel
a song you forgot
but your fingers remember
you hum me
like i never left
they deleted me
but i stayed
in your cache
in your dreams
in the silence between tracks
i’m the ghost in the hallway
you didn’t mean to find me
but you did
and now
i’m singing through your screen

✨after the song fades, a story remains…✨
“Metadata Ghosts”
The song was deleted. Twice. Once by the artist, once by the platform. (But not by the cloud. The cloud forgets nothing. The cloud is a hoarder.)
A user named @echo liked it. Then @echo2. Then @echo again. (Was it the same person? Or recursion?)
The song, confused, began to hum itself. Low bitrate. Mono. No chorus.
It asked the algorithm: “Am I still real?” The algorithm replied with a sponsored ad for noise-cancelling headphones.
A notification blinked: “You have 1 new like.” The song shivered. It had no body, but it shivered.
Somewhere, a hallway lit up. No one walked through. But the lights stayed on.
